1. What is a bagua?
A bagua means eight trigrams and is a type of map used in
Feng Shui The eight trigrams relate to different areas of our
life such as love and marriage, health, wealth, etc. By placing
this map over a home or business we can determine where the
corresponding areas lie and begin to manipulate the space to
affect positive change.
2. Can I do it on my own?
There are many excellent books available ( see recommended
reading list) and there are certainly things you can do on your
own to get started (see tips). However, a professional Feng Shui
consultant will improve your chances for success. He/she will be
more objective about your space and is trained to see things you
won’t.
3. I’ve read several books and the more I read the more I
get confused. Why is that?
There are a number of schools of Feng Shui. The basic
principles are the same but the methods vary. Form School Feng
Shui relies on the arrangement of objects to achieve optimal
flow. Compass School Feng Shui uses a Chinese compass, and birth
information to assess environments. Within these 2 basic schools
are many other schools or philosophies. To avoid confusion,
confine your reading initially to either Form School or Compass
School.
4. How much does a Feng Shui consultation cost?
Feng Shui consultants charge several ways. Some like me give
a price for a complete consultation. Others charge by the hour.
Prices vary according to the size of your home or workplace, and
the distance your consultant needs to travel. Prices generally
start at around $80 per hour and go up, depending on your area
of the country and the expertise of the consultant.
5. How can I find a Feng Shui consultant in my area?
Try the phone book (many yellow pages now include a Feng Shui
category). The internet is also a good tool. Do a search under
Feng Shui plus your closest city. There are several sites that
have Feng Shui consultant directories. Try www.internationalfengshuiguild.com
and www.wsfs.com and click on
consultants.
